As part of our college counseling program, our students are offered the opportunity to visit college campuses as a group starting in their junior year. Through these trips, we seek to expose our students to various college campuses and options, allowing them to see first-hand what the next step in their education could look like. These trips also build community amongst groups of students with diverse interests and show them places and experiences that provide a variety of unique learning experiences.
As seniors, we provide our students with a college retreat to provide clear and dedicated time and space away from family, work, and the classroom to tackle the essay writing process in an environment of camaraderie. Students also engage in a mock admissions panel, giving them a new perspective by reviewing applications from seniors as if they themselves were the ones making the admissions decisions. Additionally, on these senior college retreats students will read and evaluate essays, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. This trip also allows students the experience of exploring campuses, and doing so as a group helps builds confidence and knowledge concerning asking questions on future college visits.
