Roanoke is Having a Zine Fest!

What are “Zines”, you ask?
Cheap, Weird , Local, Do-It-Yourself: Booklets / Pamphlets / Magazines / Comics / Chapbooks & More – from the region’s underground, countercultural, anti-commercial Writers / Artists / Publishers / Thinkers / Hobbyists / Activists / Punks / Historians / & Joyous Weirdos!
In addition to zine-selling/trading booths, we welcome talks and demos on subjects relating to zine culture, underground publishing and literature, subcultural and countercultural issues, social justice, and more. Some presentations may end a little later than 4:00 depending on the number of submissions.
Star City Zine Fest is organized and hosted by the Zine Club of Community High School of Arts and Academics in Roanoke, VA. The CHS Zine Club values the zine community’s traditional basis of trading, gifting, pay-as-you-can, and near-cost exchange, and encourages participants in the Zine Fest to engage in this ethic of generosity and openness. Relatedly, we also value the free exchange of ideas and expression among individuals, marginal and affinity-based networks, and community organizations.
