2024 Fall Dance – Haunted Mansion
Another successful dance was held at the Fishburn Mansion. Our dance committee worked hard to create our “Haunted Mansion” night of fun. We are thankful for everyone who contributed, including the committee, parents, and faculty.

Halloween Party 2024
We celebrated Halloween at the end of our spirit week with a party in the yard. This year we introduced new games to complement our must-have sac races. To end a wonderful time, teams wrapped up senior students in toilet paper and Odessa’s team took the win for Best Mummy.

Spirit Week 2024
The year’s Spirit Week included Mob Day, Twin/Triplet Day, Wrinkly Senior Citizen Day, Halloween Day, and Freaky Friday. The festivities culminated with our Halloween party, filled with music, games, and treats.

As our yearly tradition, our senior class participated in a two day how-to experience designed to help them with every aspect of the college application journey. Spring 2025 Community Service Day
For our final Community Service Day of the year, we partnered with Roanoke City Parks and Recreation and the YMCA Express at Gainsboro. The Parks and Recreation group removed invasive species and painted fences along the Greenway, while the YMCA group helped out with a variety of projects at the facility.
Calculus Retreat 2025
Our Calculus students had the opportunity to participate in a three day retreat at Smith Mountain Lake. They studied hard preparing for their AP exams, but they also took time to enjoy each other’s company, and have some fun. Also… they welcomed back a very special guest – Bethany!

“Little Women” Trip to the Theater
The Transcendentalists & Suffragettes class visited the American Shakespeare Center for their lovely production of “Little Women”. After reading this classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, the students enjoyed the fresh adaptation played out before their very eyes. The cold rain, however, did cause them to have to relocate their picnic plans.

Warren & Ambrielle (’19) at PCACAC
While attending the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC) conference, Warren bumped in to his former student, Ambrielle Viney (’19). Ambrielle is now the Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of Lynchburg and was participating in a panel at the conference.
Food, Farming, & the Future Recipes
Students presented on the recipes they researched for a recent project in the Food, Farming, and the Future class. CHS Students Travel To Málaga, Spain
Ten students and two teachers traveled Málaga, Spain. This two-week trip featured a homestay experience with local host families, intensive Spanish classes at the Malaca Instituto in Málaga, and fun local excursions. Read the Trip Blog Here!
Lily Earns a Scholastic National Silver Medal

Reebop Chromosomes
To demonstrate biological concepts and processes, our students created baby Reebops out of marshmallows and gumdrops. They used parent Reebop chromosomes to determine their features, and it’s a great illustration of how genetics is responsible for both similarities and differences within a species. UV Yeast Experiment
Our Biology students designed their own experiments to determine what devices might affect the protection of wild and mutant yeast strains unable to repair their DNA after exposure to UV rays.
