For part of our Lycée Day, the entire CHS community had a group Q&A session to discuss issues concerning the homeless population in our area. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Malora Horne from Roanoke City Public Schools, Lee Cook from the Rescue Mission, and Matt Crookshanks from the Roanoke Homeless Assistance Team for providing us with this opportunity. Both their time and insight was much appreciated.
BillionGraves is the world’s largest resource for searchable GPS cemetery data, and is growing bigger and better every day. For this community service project, our students contributed by taking headstone images from a local cemetery, and then transcribing the personal information found on the images. The GPS information collected helps others research expansive family histories from around the world without having to travel. The students also collected trash from around the cemetery, and set fallen stones upright.

Proceeds provide the primary resources to support the ongoing programs and operations of the Harrison Museum of African American Culture.
You don’t need any specialized background, training, or expertise to participate in Zooniverse projects. All you need is a willingness to study authentic objects of interest gathered by researchers, like images of faraway galaxies, historical records and diaries, or videos of animals in their natural habitats. By answering simple questions about them, you’ll help contribute to our understanding of our world, our history, our Universe, and more.
To participate, visit the Zooniverse website.
