Arts & Electives
Puppet Creation – Check in
The Puppets and Creepy Dolls class continued to be hard at work this week. Clay sculptures have been baked and are ready to paint. Papier-mâché halves have been joined, and more layering has been employed for the heads. Bodies are also being constructed. And soon string puppets will be able to bend appendages. We’ll keep you posted!

Eliza wins the 2021 John J. Sailer Scholarship
Congratulations to Eliza G, this year’s recipient of the John J. Sailer Scholarship from Mill Mountain Theater! This honor provides the opportunity for Eliza to learn the creative and technical skills required in creation of scenic, costume and lighting elements for professional theatre productions.
Way to go, Eliza!
Lucy Wins 3 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a juried art competition that takes place once a year nationwide, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Winners are selected on the basis of originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal vision or voice.
At the regional level Lucy received a gold key in film and animation for her piece “The Will o Wisp” and a silver key in painting for her piece “The Old Cider Mill”.
Additionally, The Will o Wisp went on to receive a silver key at the national level! There were around 230,000 pieces entered nationally this year, and a little over 1,900 received national recognition.
As a silver medalist, Lucy will be attending this year’s New York City award ceremony virtually.
