The Super Hero Kids program focuses on a therapeutic approach to help children who are survivors of domestic violence create lasting, meaningful relationships. CHS student volunteers led art-based activities with these students, and also helped with a number of other activities designed for the program.
Educators from across Pakistan are taking part in the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program at Virginia Tech. CHS faculty and students had the honor of hosting a group of visiting teachers this fall. For more information, check out this article from WDBJ7.
Students had to opportunity to spend a semester working weekly on projects at the Maker Mart. These projects provide kids with the opportunity to learn the value of working in teams while giving them the confidence to tackle more advanced projects and problems. Team-based projects allow for diversity in assigned tasks, giving kids a chance to work in roles where they excel. Students worked on projects involving woodworking and some metal working.
Congratulations to junior, Tallulah C. on becoming the co-policy director for the Virginia Chapter of the US Climate Strike! Tallulah says that she is very excited to accept this position, and she cannot wait to connect and work with the many climate activists around VA.
In conjunction with Clean Valley Council and Roanoke Stormwater, the Environmental Science Class created a litter collection device for local rivers. This project was funded through the Competitive Grant Program from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and received support from Delegate Sam Rasoul.

ComMUN represented Palestine at the Appalachia Regional Model Arab League at Hollins University. Morgan B. won Outstanding Delegate in her committee and Noor F. won Distinguished Delegate in hers!
Seniors Aidan Skye J. and Jacob G. had a successful trip to the Virginia Theater Association Conference. Aidan Skye received an honorable mention for her entry into the Costume Design Competition and Jacob G. got 9 callbacks from colleges!
Our students spent a rewarding day either helping out at Feeding America SW Virginia or the Habitat Re-Store, Roanoke Valley.
