Zeljka (Schelly) Shares the Significance of Her Yearlong CHS Exchange

Hey, my name is Zeljka and I’m visiting from Germany.  I have always wanted to do an exchange year in America, to grow, step out of my comfort zone, and become more independent.  I also realize who my true friends are, appreciate everything more that I have in Germany, and am also finding myself.  That’s why this year abroad means everything to me.

It is a big honor for me to visit CHS.  It’s an amazing school with amazing teachers, which is something we don’t have at my school in Germany.  My favorite class is Spanish, especially because of Leanne, my teacher. From the first day of class, she gave me the confidence I needed and made me really comfortable.

Another thing I really love is my host family.  They never judge me for who I am and we harmonize perfectly together.  I never have to be afraid of something and I can tell them everything.

What do I like about the US?  I would say it’s because everything is really different, and has beautiful places like I have always imagined it. It’s like a dream that became reality.

Zeljka J is attending CHS for the full 2022-23 school year, and we are thrilled to have her here with us. CHS offers a variety of domestic and international exchange opportunities for students.
